How To Deal With A Whiney Network Marketing Downline Member
When I first got involved in Internet Network Marketing I was going through a financial crisis so out of desperation to make money I pretty much took anyone that signed up under me in. But this turned out to be one of my biggest mistakes. Several individuals became quite stagnant and blamed me for their internet marketing losses or should I say lack of success and refused to take accountability for their short-comings.These are usually the kind of individuals who joined under you looking for a get rich system where YOU do all the work and they sit and do nothing. Then, when you try and offer a hand of support you then find out they haven?t taken any of the coaching or training material that you offered them. It?s important to realize that sometimes it?s necessary to step up to the plate and boldly tell them you do not want them in your downline.See, everyone that joins your team is not going to duplicate your success. Nor is everyone who joins your team going to be ?good news.? In fact, they might turn out to be your worst nightmare. Let me give you a couple of scenarios that I and a few of my colleagues have experienced.Scenario 1You have a total stranger who has come across your opportunity and he appears eager to join. But he is skeptical. (This is when your ?spider sense? should go up) He thinks every MLM/home business opportunity is a scam and he constantly is crying about how he has tried MLM before but for whatever reason, the company he was with was a ?scam.? So, you try and convince this ?poor guy? that you can help him achieve success.Well weeks go past and nothing comes out of him. Not a phone call or even an email. Finally you get a call ?out of the blue? from this downline member and he starts accusing you of being a scammer and a fraud. He begins tarnishing your name on the internet and demands a refund of his money. Now your commission is cut short and possibly your reputation damaged. All because of one individual didn?t take accountability for their own destiny.Scenario 2You beg a friend to join your team. Deep down inside you know this friend may not work out but for some reason you just have to have them on your team. After all, he is your friend. After about a month of getting rejected he/she begins to get frustrated. As a leader you try to keep them motivated and you coach them but they have a problem with your leadership and authority and they start to feel annoyed. Eventually the friendship becomes strained. Now you are not only without a team member you are out of a friend.The SolutionAs a leader it is very important that you develop what is called ?detachment?. When one first comes into the business, it?s quite easy to want to take ?everybody and their momma? on to your team. But the old school saying ?all money isn?t good money? holds true here.Develop a sense of exclusivity so that prospects are flocking to you not the other way around. This way, most of your work is done. People who are serious will hunt you down. In some cases beg you to let them join your team. Take the time to screen your prospects to determine if your business relationship with them is going to be a fit.Secondly, so not let your downline develop a dependency on your leadership. You will be taken advantage of, they won?t appreciate your personal time and they will suck you dry for all your resources. Spend time with those on your team who are self-motivated, fun, open-minded and independent. When you create a sense of exclusivity (not to be confused with superiority) your time, knowledge and wisdom will be highly valued and you will be respected even more.Last, always stay busy. When you spend your time with your downline superstars, the rest of your whiney, nagging, constantly complaining will either work even harder to command your time and attention. Or, they will fall off to the waste side. Remember who the leader is. You! Don?t let your whiney downline members turn you back into a follower.The best thing to do is be upfront with your prospect and explain to them kind of team member you are looking for. Tell them your expectations and let them know what you will provide for them in exchange if those expectations are met. Remember, this is a business and not a babysitting service.
